Our school community relies on the generosity of many and thrives when generosity is present. We wanted to start the year with this in mind, as there are many opportunities for each member of the FSD Team and community to be generous every day. 

Generosity is defined as kindly and freely giving to others. It has its roots in kindness, and benefits both the person who is being generous and the person who is receiving kindness.  

I see evidence of the generous spirit of the Foothills in every site visit, every School Council meeting, every school or community event I attend, and in our community at large. And this kind spirit of giving is vital to our collective success. 

Our parents and caregivers volunteer countless hours in our schools in so many ways, and this is generosity in action. Whether contributing to a school fundraiser, sitting on school council, chaperoning a field trip, or assisting with a school play or other event, this kind gift of time and expertise is essential to positive school experience. 

Our staff also contribute above and beyond their roles to enrich the life of our schools. The time and energy spent coaching, organizing a school event or field trip, sitting on School Council, staying after school to assist a colleague or family is another illustration of generosity at work throughout FSD. 

We also have many businesses and organizations that support our schools with the kind gift of food, volunteerism, and/or prizes that bring additional experiences and opportunities for our learners.  

The examples above merely scratch the surface of what we see every day; generosity is all around us and is as easy as sending a kind note of thanks or appreciation to any of the individuals within our learning community. I offer my gratitude to all who contribute to our flourishing FSD community, your kind and generous support of our schools is vital to our success. Thank you!
